There is a list of items one usually travels with. In my experience I have narrowed it down to these items being in my top 5 things I don’t travel without. It can be obvious and a no-brainer of the items I’m about to list but maybe it can help someone out there to avoid any issues while travelling.

Extra Credit Card

There are so many scenarios of what ifs that can happen if your credit card is robbed, blocked, or even if the ATM “eats” it. I learned the hard way when my card kept declining while I was traveling internationally. I did notify the bank that I would be out of the country but not sure what triggered it to decline when trying to purchase something at the airport. The only other card I was carrying was my debit card and thankfully it worked.

Extra ID

Once again, emergencies! Carry your passport card or any other ID with your picture on it. My driver’s license always makes an error sound when the TSA agent scans it and I don’t even know why. (I know I should get it checked out at the DMV, but there are never appointments)

Out of all of the times it happened to me, one TSA agent asked me to go back to the counter to verify my information. (this was after I made the long TSA line). After this, I always make sure to make a stop at the airline’s counter just to verify with the agent that all is well. In another instance where I was flying domestic the TSA agent asked for my passport and another form of identification. Since it was a domestic flight all I had in my wallet was my AAA card, my Costco membership card, and credit cards with my name! Luckily he let me pass after showing him my Costco card with my picture on it. After that, I knew I would always have to carry my passport card to avoid this issue.

Cash

Always carry cash! Even if it’s $20, or $100. Having cash is a must. Having small bills in different pockets or bags will always come in handy for a quick purchase or to tip.

Portable Charger

After a whole day exploring a new city and taking pictures with your phone your battery will not last you all day. This is where the portable charger comes in handy. I have two chargers that I use just in case one isn’t fully charged. Nowadays there are several different types of portable chargers available, from bulky to slim, it all depends on your preference.

Reusable Water bottle

Who wants to pay more than $5 for a water bottle at the airport or your destination? I always suggest taking one that can fit comfortably in your bag. I recently purchased a collapsable bottle that saves me some space in my bag when not filled with water.
