If you’re looking to learn more about Miami, look no further than HistoryMiami. This museum tells the stories of Miami’s communities, events, and people. Plus- It’s Florida’s largest history museum. From collectibles, to vintage signs, to even a life-size trolley this museum takes you through Miami’s rich history. I spent a Saturday afternoon at HistoryMiami for its Family Fun Day and learned a lot about Miami’s history.

The museum currently has different exhibitions that range from “Miami, The Magic City” to “Mythic Creatures”. Yes, dragons, unicorns, and even the ape foot from Miami are highlighted in this exhibition. In the exhibition, you can listen to tape recordings from people who say they’ve seen a mythical creature, and even see sculptures replicating what the mythical creatures look like in person.
The museum has had past exhibitions highlighting Miami’s history and culture which included the 25th anniversary of Hurricane Andrew, and popular astrologist Walter Mercado.
On the second Saturday of every month, the museum has Family Fun Day. There are several DIY activities for kids to do like putting together a Chinese dragon and there are also storytimes available throughout the day. Although the entrance is free, you do have to register to enter the museum.
HistoryMiami is open from Wednesday to Saturday from 10 am – 5 pm, and Sunday from 12 pm- 5 pm.
